The storm jib is typically hoisted on a dedicated (extra) inner forestay or on the forestay of the genoa. If using an inner forestay, the storm jib can be attached and left in place. When replacing the genoa with the storm jib, the genoa must be first removed, and then the storm jib can be installed using a luff tape or with luff hardware.
As an alternative, the storm jib can also be placed over a furled headsail – see below (gale sail). All storm jibs are made from heavy-duty, high-quality dacron (offshore/cross-cut design) and feature extra-strong radial reinforcements, double-row stitching (triple stitch), leather finishing, stainless steel eyelets, and a sail bag. The storm jib can be supplied with either a luff tape or luff hardware (stainless steel or bronze luff clips).

A gale sail is also a storm jib, but specifically designed for easy use over the furled genoa. The genoa does not need to be removed and stowed. The genoa is fully furled, and the gale sail is wrapped around it. The sail has a wide Dacron “sleeve” that slides over the furled headsail. The sail slides up and down very easily because Dacron glides smoothly over itself. The sail can be hoisted using the spinnaker halyard or a spare headsail halyard. The advantage of this is that the genoa can remain in place, making it easy and safe to attach.
The gale sail is also made from heavy-duty, high-quality dacron (offshore/cross-cut design) and features extra-strong radial reinforcements, double-row stitching (triple stitch), leather finishing, stainless steel eyelets, and a sail bag.

A trysail is either placed in the standard mast groove or sometimes on a special mast track next to it. Alternatively, the mainsail halyard can be attached to the boom gallows. The trysail can then be attached to the halyard with leech slides and hoisted using the topping lift or a dedicated halyard.
The trysails are made from heavy-duty, high-quality dacron (offshore/cross-cut design) and feature extra-strong radial reinforcements, double-row stitching (triple stitch), leather finishing, stainless steel eyelets, and a sail bag.
