Mainsail

The mainsail is a crucial sail on a vessel. While the headsail (jib/genoa) typically provides 60-70% of the propulsion, the pressure, height, and final bit of speed are determined by the mainsail. The degree of weather helm, heel, and overall sailing comfort are largely influenced by the mainsail. Therefore, it is important to properly tailor the mainsail to your specific sailing preferences and rigging. Different batten systems, the extent of roach, and the depth of the mainsail are, of course, adjusted to your desires and rigging. A fractional rig allows for more flexibility in mast bending, enabling a deeper-cut mainsail. On the other hand, a masthead rig often has limited mast bending, which is crucial for mainsail design.

Furthermore, a mainsail can be made in a cross-cut design, a tri-radial design, or even as a single-piece membrane sail. You can read more about these options under the “Configurations” section.

Standard options for your mainsail

  • Custom-made design refers to the creation of a unique and individualized sail design tailored specifically to your preferences and requirements. This involves working closely with a sailmaker or designer who takes into account factors such as the type of boat, sailing conditions, performance goals, and personal preferences. The process typically includes discussions, measurements, and considerations of various design elements such as sail shape, materials, reinforcements, and hardware. The result is a bespoke sail that is specifically crafted to optimize performance, handling, and aesthetics for your sailing vessel.
  • Different batten systems (1+3, 2+2, fully battened)
  • Asymmetric radial corner reinforcements at the corners and reef points
  • 2 reefs with a "dog bone" in the luff, equipped with two rings
  • Cunninghamhole
  • Boltrope or flying foot with clew slug or velcro strap
  • Alloy headboard
  • Trimline with clamcleat for each reef
  • Drafstripes in color of choice
  • Tell-tales
  • Sailbattens
  • Sunbrella UV protection at the clew (furling mainsails)
  • Clewblock for furling mainsails
  • Strong sailbag
