Furling systems for Gennaker, Code Cruising and Code Zero

The power and acceleration achieved when deploying a Code 0 or an asymmetrical spinnaker is spectacular. It makes sailing even more enjoyable. The rolled-up sail can simply be hoisted, the endless line detached, give it a pull, and off you go! To furl the sail, release the sheet, pull on the endless line, and secure it in the Twin Cam block. Once the sail is furled, it can be neatly stowed and rolled up in a race bag or left hanging for later use. SailSelect provides all the necessary accessories for safely and effortlessly furling “off-the-wind” sails.

Ample space is required for the use of a furler to roll the sail. Therefore, these sails are always flown on a roller attached to the bow fitting or, even better, a bowsprit. If your boat is not equipped with one, we can assist you with options such as a standard bowsprit kit that you can install yourself.

Bottom-up furler With a bottom-up furler, the entire sail rolls in and out over the entire luff, similar to a genoa. For sails like a code zero or cruising code, an anti-torsion cable is sewn into the luff. The anti-torsion line connects the drum to the top swivel on the halyard and ensures that the drum is guided upwards. As a result, the furling starts at the top and progressively rolls down until the entire sail is furled. This is called top-down furling.

Top-down furler With a top-down furler, the sail rolls from top to bottom around an anti-torsion line. The luff is free-flying, similar to a gennaker, asymmetrical spinnaker, or cable-less code zero. The tack of these sails is attached to a swivel at the drum and initially does not rotate. However, the top of the sail is connected to the top swivel and starts rotating, causing the sail to roll from top to bottom.
